Eye Care Stories

This is Mona
This is Mona just seven years old

We met Mona at our outreach eye care at the Deaf Center in Khartoum North in June. She is just seven years old and has just started her educational life. She was born deaf and had an eye problem. Her squint can hinder and slow her ability to learn, if it is not treated. Our doctor said that having ear problems can very likely lead to eye problems also. The doctor transferred Mona to her clinic for an operation to her eyes. Our support to Mona will help her to depend on herself and continue her studies. Helping people to smile and to have a better future is the most rewarding job.

Mohammad, six years old, was born with Cataracts and Glaucoma problems in both eyes. His sister Maha, three years old, was also born with the same problems. The reason behind it is cousins’ marriages. These are common in Sudan where a lot of people, especially in neglected areas, suffer from lack of awareness about this issue. The doctor transferred Mohammad to the hospital where he had a cataract operation. Then she prescribed eye drops for him to use until the time of the second surgery. Also, his sister is using eye drops as the doctor recommended until the time of her surgeries.

These operations are very important because cataracts can lead to blindness if it is not treated.

By helping children like Maha and Mohammad we give them opportunities and hope for a better future where they can go to school, learn and achieve their dreams.

Your support for our work is always needed and always greatly appreciated.
